Being called to explore a religious vocation is truly a gift that is not given to everyone and not always accepted by those chosen. Scripture even says, “For many are invited, but few are chosen.” (Mt 22:14) When entering into the discernment process consider it as a journey with God. God wants to take a walk to a destination unknown to you. You are being asked to trust God’s love in a deeper and more intimate way than ever before.
The most important thing you can do to prepare for and persevere through the journey is pray.
- Pray for the grace to see, hear, touch, feel and smell God in your everyday interactions with people, nature and the quiet.
- Pray for the gift of perseverance to continue on this journey when times seem dark and fearful.
- Pray for the gift of courage to say “yes” to the direction that God is asking you to take.
- Pray for the ability not to rush the process.
Finally, know that you are not walking on this journey alone. God sends us people when we need them to encourage and direct us. There are sisters and other individuals that you have never met already praying for you and your journey experience. The keyword is “trust”.
As the vocation director my ministry is not to tell someone whether they should or should not enter into religious life. I do not pressure anyone to enter our community. My primary ministry is to help with the discernment process. I am here to answer questions, to talk about religious life and to discuss more specifically who the Pallottine Missionary Sisters are. I offer help with prayer and opportunities to learn more about our community.
If you feel God asking you to go on a walk with him and to at least consider the idea of religious life, don’t hesitate to ask for help. You never know where you may end up.
